ASCAP Mid life crisis

So Colin is going to register our music with ASCAP for our publishing.  This made the band and I discuss songwriting credits.  It’s a funny dynamic because Anks is not a 2+4 kind of drummer and I feed off that when I’m writing dynamics, time signatures and feel.  Kyle is so in tune with my sense of melody that I often look to him for approval on songs when I present them to the band.  So our songs are our songs and they get off the ground because it’s us three playing them.  We also met as friends first before considering playing together and we all want each other to be equally happy twenty years from now.  I remember reading a story about Roger Daltry asking Pete Townshend to tour as The Who.  Pete was sailing his yacht with his royalty money while Roger was working to earn a living.  That’s a no no. So we are all going to take credit on songwriting. Unless Kyle goes all Jaco Pastorius on us.

More than a Grammy, MTV Moonman, or AMA, I want to earn a MacArthur Fellowship.  Now I know this isn’t the kind of thing you declare.  I was working on my poetry writing at Cornell when Professor Alice Fulton dropped that she was a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, otherwise known as the MacArthur Genius Grant.  Now I had no idea such a thing existed, but I’ve since learned what it’s about.  I know that a rock/pop-rock musician has little chance competing with academics.  Maybe I’m having a mid life crisis at my young age.
