All the pretty, tired horses

There’s a great discount theatre in Culver City where shows are six dollars and matinees are three fifty. It’s Christmas day and I thought I’d go to see the new Bob Dylan flick, I’m Not There. In the movie Jude’s closing monologue comments on the futility of political song.

I heard that and remembered Rolling Stone’s interview with author Cormack McCarthy*. In it he impresses the importance of life and death juxtaposed with each other in writing. I began to question the value and then the constant, common denominator of my songs. I think I have an answer, but it was really the question that was the point.
