Born in the U.S.A
My friend Mike Phirman of the musical comedy duo Hard ‘N Phirm were just featured on a Comedy Central Presents special. Oddly enough we were playing the Derby the night it aired and I missed it. I’ve seen clips of them preforming on Jimmy Kimmel and they are a riot. If you haven’t heard their Rodeohead go listen to it now.
I downloaded a trial of Xara Xtreme (ugh, the name) to whip up a splash page for our upcoming shows. I’ve used the program before to pen our hawk logo. It’s really easy to use and I’ll decide to buy or not to buy after my thirty day trial expires. I knowingly got the inspiration for the splash page design from the cover of the new Tom Petty film Runnin’ Down a Dream.
I heard from my grandparents that my dad is living in some shitty conditions now that he’s been moved to a state facility. Aside from the prison food what I’ve heard about the hygiene condition he’s given almost breaks my heart. I hope it doesn’t break his spirit. He really doesn’t deserve to be there. Part of his sentence is stemming from an altercation where he took out some police officers who drew on him. My dad is ex-military and was trained to handle situations like that. That’s what he knows and a large part of who he is. Fuck, I was born on and spent the first month of my life on a military base in Alabama. I don’t think anyone is taking that into consideration and it’s not fair to him. My grandfather, a strong man from Puerto Rico was on the phone with me cursing the Army for changing his son. I can see how some children grow up angry without their dads around.
Anyway I’ve got a copy of Bruce Springsteen Live at the Hammersmith Odean ‘75. I’m going to watch it. I’m going to be the next Bruce Springsteen.
